A decade of love - iMac turns 10

Okay, so this is a bit late, but hey, It's my first day on the job.

On Aug 15, Apple celebrated 10 years of it's award winning and design reforming iMac.

Wired.com has an interesting article here. This slideshow chronicles the coming of age of Apple as both a company and a design institution, and how the release of the iMac was able to get the company out of its mid-90s financial woes. It was also when my love of the Mac began.

I can remeber seeing one of the first iMacs at the state museum and I was in love, especially with the cool 'hockey-puck' mouse that they shipped with (c'mon, I was only 11 at the time and had no idea of ergonomics - if it looked cool, it was...). Then, after that trip, it was back to the dull reality of Windows95 and Blue Screens.

I forgot all about Apple and the Macintosh system for a few years until my love affair was restarted with the release of the 3rd generation of iMacs, the Lampshade. It was so simple and so effective - and the kicker: it was functional.

I was starting to get into senior high-school and was looking for a replacement for my ageing laptop that had seen me through. Unfortunatley, the lampshade iMac was waaaay out of my reach as an unemployed highschool student. All I could do was lust after it, again.

Fast forward to today, I am now the proud owner of a heap of Apple gear - an intel iMac, a Macbook, and a Macbook Air, and a 'few' iPods and accessories.

I can only dream of what wonders the boffins in Cupertino will come up with for the next generation of iMac, and if it is anything like some of the rumours floating around I will be crying with envy.

I love the future...

Welcome.

What can I say? I've got a bit of spare time so I thought I'd create a blog.

Hopefully, this will develop into (yet another) tech news blog, as well as somewhere for me to post my views and opinions on current world events and happenings - both tech and non-tech related.
